Have Erosion On Your Property? 2 Tips To Control It

If you have soil erosion on your property this can cause you a lot of problems. Fortunately, there are different ways you can control erosion, two of which are listed below.  You can then determine what method will work best for you so you can take care of this problem before it gets much worse.

Use Vegetation

If you do not have a lot of soil erosion, planting vegetation may take care of the problem for you. When choosing vegetation, make sure you choose what will grow best in the type of soil you have, as well as what will grow well in the shade or sun levels of the property.

You can choose cover crops as vegetation. This includes things like clover, rye, and vetch. All these plants are easy to grow and hardy. They create a lot of roots that will hold the topsoil in place and reduce weeds that may grow in the area. The roots act like a large net to hold the soil together.

If you want the area to look nice, there are flowers that can work well as cover crops. This includes things like woodland phlox, which produces purple flowers during the summer and fall months. You can also choose violets which produce purple and white blooms. Choose violets that grow hardy in your area, as there are different varieties available.

Use an Erosion Control System

If you have bad erosion problems, planting cover crops may not be enough. If so, you should hire an erosion control service. There are many systems they can use to control erosion on your property.

One system is known as fabric-formed concrete. With this, a specially woven fabric is first placed on the ground. Concrete is then pumped into forms on the fabric. When finished, the fabric-formed concrete holds the soil in place. This is an effective way to take care of erosion that lasts a long time.

A concrete canvas may also be used for erosion control. This is using a geosynthetic material that is filled with concrete over the soil. Once laid the concrete and geosynthetic material harden and forms several thin layers to hold soil in place.

An erosion control service contractor can give you many more tips on erosion control. They can help you choose the method that will work best for the type of erosion problems you are having on your property.
